UFC Banana Ketchup Sauce 550 g is one of the most distinctive and flagship products of the Filipino brand UFC. Created during times of tomato shortage, it became a cult alternative to traditional ketchup and is now a staple in every kitchen in the Philippines. UFC Banana Ketchup stands out primarily for its unique flavour profile. It is sweet-and-sour and distinctly spicy, resulting from the balanced combination of bananas (10%), sugar, vinegar, and chili and garlic. Bananas provide a thick consistency and a delicate, fruity base, while vinegar and spices add intensity and warmth. The sauce's thickness is further supported by modified corn starch. This sauce is traditionally coloured an intense red or red-orange to resemble tomato ketchup. The colourants used in this product are E102 (Tartrazine) and E129 (Allura Red). The product label includes a warning that these colourants "may have adverse effect on activity and attention in children". UFC Banana Ketchup is incredibly versatile. It is essential as a dip for all fried and grilled dishes, including the popular lumpia (Filipino spring rolls), tocino (sweet cured meat), or classic French fries. It can also be used as an ingredient in meat marinades or as a twist in pasta sauces. In terms of nutritional values (per 100 ml), the sauce is fat-free (0 g) and contains a significant amount of carbohydrates (23 g), of which most are sugars (20 g). It is also low in protein (0 g). The preservative used in the product is 0.1% Sodium Benzoate (E211), which ensures longer freshness.
